The competition is fierce between New York, Paris, London and Milan for “most important fashion week”

The competition is fierce between New York, Paris, London and Milan for “most important fashion week”. It is an ever evolving process as to which city owns the top spot. Surely Paris has to be the most influential due to it’s rich history and deep fashion roots. That plus the perception that if you can make it there you can make it anywhere.

Yes, New York thinks that phrase only pertains to a New York state of mind. But I am here to tell you, that ain’t true especially in reference to fashion. New York has been trying to hold on for dear life for that second slot, but it’s time to let go. Milan sits comfortably there. Italians are an extremely proud people. So proud of their heritage and craftsmanship, that you have to give it to them for the sheer fact that you can’t really argue with some in Italian…go find me someone who willingly speaks English. Yikes. But for the master houses alone like Gucci and Prada…they rule…but from the second tier. New York, I know, it’s not what you want to hear…but you come in third. Yes you do. When Fern Mallis was at the helm of the CFDA and helped to prove that American fashion was a force to be reckoned with, yes…New York had its moment in the sun. When Calvin Klein was still designing his collection, Geoffrey Beene and Halston were alive and fashion was not yet reduced to “an anybody can become a designer”…thank you Bravo network. Sorry, the flood gates that opened at New York Fashion Week dilutes our message and the strength of “American sportswear”…that which created the buzz in the first place. And lastly, we have London. A great city, great for shopping, but somehow, the overall industry is more quirky than beyond. Sure there are standouts…but the overall picture…well…there’s my list and I am sticking to it.

Milan had a great season. Sure there were IMW’s…but that’s a given. Here with are my best and worst of Milan Fashion Week. Let me start with Alberta Ferretti. I loved what she did in Milan and hated what she showed in New York. So, Alberta dear…get out of New York and stay where you belong…with your proud group of fierce Italians. New York does not need any more filler schmatehs. Lord knows we have to edit out a good 100 American companies as it goes.

Women Fashion World: Drape And Flow - José Miró

Women Fashion World: Drape And Flow - José Miró

There is just something about the A/W 09-10 collection from Spanish designer José Miró. Women Fashion World love the soft & strong vibes from this collection, very much like a "warrior woman" gone chic & the pairing of the thigh high leather boots, adds the edge to pull off the pieces that drape & flow. This collection is his best thus far. Women Fashion World can see these pieces off the runway, sans the thigh-high leather boots & in a few closets of women who dare to be individual.

Women Fashion World: Gracie And Ana Bela

Women Fashion World: I Heart - Gracie And Ana Bela

Recently one of you lovely readers asked me who were my two favourite models of the moment, and if Women Fashion World wouldn't mind sharing them on the blog. Well, dear awesome reader who always sends us lovely e-mails here they are; Gracie Carvalho of Way and Ana Bela Santos of Marilyn! Both are Brasilian, both look like they could be a part of my family & of course someday Women Fashion World did love to work with them on a campaign. These two ladies have been inspiring us ever since they hit the runways & the pages of magazines. So let us throw it out there, Women Fashion World believe wholeheartedly that our dream of working with both will come true. Remember Beautiful is Beautiful & Women Fashion World believe both have a very long career ahead of them.

So many goodies, so much Women Fashion World want to spill, in due time my friends, in due time.

Women Fashion World: Imagination - Aurelio Costarella

Women Fashion World: Imagination - Aurelio Costarella

Imagine rummaging through your closet & rediscovering one of Australian-based designer Aurelio Costarella's beautiful dresses. Placing your hand on the wooden hanger, you are immediately transported back to the first time you wore it. The ruffles, the tulle, the draping, the compliments you received that night. You remove it from the closet & run your hands over every stitch, wondering how many hours it took to make. You walk towards the mirror & hold the dress against your body, smiling, because you have still got it. Childhood memories of you playing in your mum's closet run across your mind, inspiring a desire to play dress up. Oh how you drowned in her clothes. You imagine the day when your future daughter will do the same. You slip back into the dress, grab your camera, and set the timer, giggling as it captures these unrehearsed moments. You fully embrace this memory, secretly thanking the designer for creating such a whimsical piece. You save the outtakes. You will share them with your children and they will share them with their children. You imagine the kick you will get out of them when you are 80. Slipping out of the dress, hanging it back in it's place, you think this is now part of history.

Dresses below are from his S/S 09-10 collection. Perfectly poised to work well beyond the runway and editorials. Visit and explore more.
